C.L.I.T fest at chatswood this friday
We have to plead ignorance at not really knowing about C.L.I.T fest, but now that we do… wow, cool idea. And one that we are fully in support of.
Anyone who’s spent some time around the punk scene anywhere will be aware that punk and hardcore, for all intents and purposes, seems predisposed to play lip service to equality rather than do much to foster it - and make it happen. We’d hasten to say it’s one reason we weren’t too keen to stick around the scene. But we digress.
Enter C.L.I.T fest. The C.L.I.T stands for combatting latent inequality together, and it’s a festival to bring the contribution of women (and women themselves) into the scene spotlight. Awesome.
It’s been running overseas successfully for several years now, so great to see it make it’s way here courtesy of uncut flowers.
From 6.00pm on Friday 20th june at chatswood youth centre, there’ll be a screening of the C.L.I.T fest ‘04 doco, bands and 15-minute discussions on sex and gender in music.
There’s also a zine to be made available on the night, though it sounds like the organisers have had a hard time getting folks to commit.
We realise not everyone is going to be up for socio-scene politics on a friday evening, but encourage as many folks as possible to go and show some support.
