Mohini-Murti warehouse party

For weeks we had been teased by the mysterious pastimes of Mohini-Murti – a tale of Lord Siva, a beautiful woman and a fatal attraction that plays out like the mating ritual of a pair of elephants. Or at least that was our understanding.

furtivity doesn’t pretend to comprehend the intricacies of this relationship, and yet we were somehow drawn to learn more. And so a trip to the inner west was in order to witness the bodega clan interpret this oh-so-whimsical piece of folklore.

Although it was the same venue as the barefoot peacock ritual, bodega had once again gone all out with the decorations. The centrepiece was an enormous Indian elephant statue with the trunk raised for luck, surrounded by a plastic floral arrangement and lit up by soft garden lights.

A solid line-up of live bands kicked off proceedings. A highlight for us was the latin band that we assume to be El Guapo (spanish for the handsome one), which had the crowd up on their feet and grooving.

At the height of their set it was standing room only, but the crowd seemed to change somewhat as the bodega djs kicked off just after 11.00pm and continued, most likely, long after we made our exit.

Mohini-Murti was, above all, a benefit for the bodega’s appearance at the upcoming Regrowth festival – happening quite close to furtivity’s roots. With the great crowd, we trust they met their targets.

Another great party, and with two more appearances scheduled between now and March, looks like being a solid month for the clan.

Oh, and as always, check out the rest of our snaps.
