Inside the fortress

We’ve given our props to the journos at smh when they’re due – and have to point out a very interesting piece on fortress, the site where two graffers lost their lives yesterday.

The piece talks to the folk from the local cave clan about exploring the drain system known as fortress, and in turn gives props to the legendary caver, predator. You can check out the history more at their official website or here as well.

“The group has broken up Fortress into sections such as cathedral (so called because of it’s cavernous roof), the bong room (it has an object that looks like a giant drug pipe) and mini-cathedral,” journalist Edmund Tadros writes.

Worth a read. Also of slight interest, did anyone else who read the smh this morning as the story unfolded notice that the deceased went from being “artists” to “graffitists” in the space of 20 minutes? Guess someone didn’t like the legitimisation…

Update #1: A new photo gallery has been added with some interesting photos of fortress.

Update #2: The sole survivor was Mik from five six seven on king street.

  2. Thanks for this – a very worthwhile (and sobering) read. (warning: file in excess of 10MB)
