Mint and Serf wrap-up

chinaheights.jpg

In case you’ve been living under a rock, you’d have probably noticed we were pretty excited about the mint and serf exhibition at china heights. (I think we might have mentioned it here and here).

So of course we had to be there on opening night. I’m not exactly sure we were supposed to be there – the “private party” sign on the door didn’t deter us, and no one asked any questions as we made our way into the gallery.

For those expecting some of mint and serf’s trademark NYC-styled graf, think again. Apart from a pair of stunning plexiglass pieces facing the windows (we want them so bad… $950.00 takes ‘em home), the exhibition is a homage to new york’s hiphop community.

There’s some paper pieces, charcoals and huge canvases of stencils, but the piece de la resistance is a massive (not-for-sale) series of portraits of key players in the NYC scene. Take a leaflet on the way in if you want to know more about who the folks are.

The exhibition isn’t huge – 15-20 minutes is more than enough time to absorb it – but still definitely worthwhile. As we alluded to earlier, you can make most pieces yours for somewhere between $250.00 and $1,000+.

Exhibition runs until sunday. Free entry.
